The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Relationship.

We present a dare for long-term couples who enjoy horror films: Sit down with your partner and view Together. The independent film success of 2025 recently had its streaming debut on Hulu. Outwardly, it might appear like standard physical horror, but within Together exists a intense examination about the ways we decide to love each other.

A Debut Feature Delving into Partnership Complexities

Together is the debut feature-length film for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as a couple named Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have remained a couple for a decade. Having wed in real life in 2017, the actors bring a special spark to their characters, masterfully depicting both the good and bad of a long-term relationship.

The story starts when Tim and Millie relocate from the big city to the country for professional reasons. A familiar narrative setup, admittedly, but that’s primarily where the cliches cease. Together transforms into as much a examination of mental states of the pair’s relationship as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Paranormal Spark

While trekking near their rural residence, a violent storm occurs, and the two discover an subterranean cavern. After a night spent there and finally finding a way out, a mysterious influence begins influencing the duo. This force compels a supernatural closeness between them that goes exceeding typical partnership.

The complete narrative is a slow burn fright fest, weaving in moments of dreamlike terrors, gross (but not excessively graphic) physical transformations, and authentically humorous dialogue (sometimes in the middle of something horrific). Michael Shanks skillfully blends these components seamlessly and delivers them in a slowly mounting aura of dread.

Complex Characterizations

A large part of Together is solely the performances of its stars, and they masterfully render countless layers to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie's sense of self and emotional bond is waning due to a distance. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his reluctance to chase only his failing musical ambitions slowly bubbles to the surface.

Conversely, Tim senses confinement and cut off by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve left the city and removed from his network of friends. He is terrified of the idea of totally forfeiting his sense of self in his partner. This fear is amplified by the circumstance he does not operate a vehicle and relies on Millie for getting around.

The director's cleverest decision in Together avoids making Tim or Millie the clear bad guy.

Tim and Millie confront the sort of issues that arise in any relationship after ten years. Fundamentally, they still love one another. They find humor with each other, offer support, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an persistent feeling of questioning about their future together.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the paranormal elements in Together represent these concerns of codependency and giving oneself over to a partner, the metaphor does not come across as overly obvious or self-important. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes provide a perfect parallel to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the horror and the drama work together in harmony.

A Debated Finale

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about codependent relationships. It has been said that single viewers have understood the narrative as a compelling reason for avoiding commitment. On the other hand, some couples having disagreements found that the film ultimately assisted them resolve their issues.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own interpretation could potentially serve as a revealing measure of how you perceive partnership. Will the conclusion inspire anxiety and horror, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you recognize your own traits in one of the characters and scream at your TV, or simply glance toward your significant other and utter, “We could get through that together”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an exploration you can experience right now.

Together is currently playing on Hulu at present.
