Minister Confirms MoD Investigating Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, with Personnel Instructed to Refrain from Secret Talk in Cars.

An defense minister has stated that the Ministry of Defence is actively looking into the potential security risks posed by Chinese cars, and staff have been advised to refrain from discussing secret information in any cars.

Security Advice for Defence Staff

In a recently aired appearance on a radio station, a defence minister addressed reports that Ministry of Defence staff have been instructed not to talk about classified information while travelling in China-made cars.

He said that the ministry is “looking into” cars from China within its vehicle pools, but emphasised that safety is a issue in all contemporary vehicles.

Our department has a fleet of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles account for a tiny fraction.
However whether you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our people is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence devices into their vehicle, not to have conversations at a secret classification in any kind of car, due to the growing threats of surveillance that exist in all vehicle, to only have those secret conversations in secure locations. This is a prudent and sensible thing for everyone concerned about safety.

After it was put to him that it would be wise for the MoD to cease using all cars from China, the minister replied: That is precisely what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Wider Security Context

This announcement follows reports from Norway and Denmark have warned the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose kill switches in Chinese-made buses, which could allow China to disable buses and bring chaos to public transit.

Additionally, a Russian intelligence vessel has been directing lasers at Royal Air Force aircrew, labeled a “highly dangerous” action by defence officials.

The wider security situation underscores the importance of robust protocols and vigilance in all aspects of official operations, from vehicle use to communication practices.
